Police continue to investigate a reported home invasion in Standish April 12 that sent two people to the hospital with serious injuries.
State Police Lt. Brian McDonough, head of detectives for the southern Maine division, said police continue to gather evidence at a home on Dolloff Road where a woman reported she was shot by an intruder.
The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call from a woman at 230 Dolloff Road reporting a shooting at the residence. When police arrived, Linda Dolloff answered the door before collapsing on the front stoop, according to police.
McDonough declined to describe Jeffrey Dolloff’s injuries or how they were sustained. Linda Dolloff received a gunshot wound to the lower abdomen/hip area, he said. Both remained in the hospital as of press time Wednesday.
Cumberland County Sheriff Mark Dion said state police became involved in the investigation early on because there were indications Jeffrey Dolloff might not survive his injuries.
“When we were at the scene we concluded the injuries were of such significance death could be a possibility,” he said.
Family members told police Tuesday Jeffrey Dolloff’s condition appears to be improving, which McDonough said is “good and hopeful news.”
Police have been at the home for several days gathering evidence and piecing together what happened, McDonough said. He declined to say what type of gun was used or whether a weapon was found on the property.
“We’ve been in the house since early Sunday morning and several items of evidence have been transported for analysis,” he said Tuesday.
Police have spoken with Linda Dolloff about her version of what took place in the home, McDonough said.
“We’re really looking for the opportunity to have a conversation with Mr. Dolloff,” he said.
Police have also spoken with family and friends to determine what happened and uncover potential motives, McDonough said. Jeffrey Dolloff’s adult daughter and her partner were in an apartment on the property during the incident but only Jeffrey and Linda Dolloff were found in the home, he said.
McDonough said he anticipates police will conduct a “lengthy, thorough investigation” and be “meticulous” with processing the scene.
“I’m confident we’ll come to a conclusion to solve this thing, but there’s a lot of work to do,” he said.
